A stannous fluoride toothpaste with whitening

Colgate Total Whitening uses stannous fluoride at 0.454% (0.15% w/v fluoride ion) and is designed for twice-daily brushing. It also contains hydrated silica and tetrasodium pyrophosphate, and the label refers to plaque, tartar, surface stains, sensitivity and bad breath.

What comes in the pack

You receive two 5.1 oz tubes of the mint-flavoured toothpaste, so a second tube is ready when the first runs out, or one can go in a travel bag.

What whitening means here

The whitening benefit is about removing surface stains through regular brushing. It is a daily toothpaste, not a bleaching gel, so results depend on your starting shade and brushing habits.

How to use

For adults and children aged 12 and over, apply at least a 1-inch strip to a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush thoroughly for at least one minute, twice a day (morning and evening) or as recommended by a dentist, making sure to brush all sensitive areas. Do not swallow. For children under 12, consult a dentist.

Before you choose

Keep out of reach of children. If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison control centre straight away. When used for sensitivity, do not use for longer than four weeks unless recommended by a dentist, and stop and ask a dentist if sensitivity persists or worsens. Stop use and ask a dentist if gum bleeding or redness persists for more than two weeks, or if you have painful or swollen gums, pus from the gum line, loose teeth or increasing spacing between teeth. US-market product: packaging and label wording may differ from UK versions.
