Hand & foot care: your questions answered

How do I choose a hand cream?
If you wash your hands often, a fast-absorbing, non-greasy cream for daytime is easier to live with, while a richer cream suits evenings. Look for ingredients like glycerin, shea butter, oat and urea for very dry hands. Aveeno and Eucerin both make hand creams designed for very dry skin. Keep a tube by every sink and in your bag, and reapply after washing.
How do I care for rough, dry heels?
Soak feet in warm water for a few minutes, gently smooth rough areas with a foot file, then pat dry and apply a rich foot cream. Creams with urea or lactic acid, such as those from Gold Bond and Eucerin, are made to soften very dry, rough skin. For extra softness, apply a thick layer before bed and wear cotton socks overnight.
What are hand and foot masks?
Hand and foot masks come as cream-filled gloves or socks that you wear for 15 to 20 minutes, giving a concentrated dose of moisture in one go. They're a simple way to pamper dry hands or feet before an occasion or after a cold spell. Massage any leftover cream into the skin afterwards, and use them weekly alongside your everyday hand or foot cream.
