Treatments & oils: your questions answered

How often should I use a hair mask?
Most hair masks are designed to be used once or twice a week in place of your usual conditioner. After shampooing, squeeze out excess water, apply the mask from the mid-lengths to the ends and leave it for the time on the pack, usually five to twenty minutes. Popular US and Korean options include masks from Aveeno and Mise En Scene. Very dry or curly hair may enjoy more frequent use.
How do I use a hair oil?
A little goes a long way. Warm two or three drops between your palms and smooth over the mid-lengths and ends of damp or dry hair to add shine and tame flyaways. Fine hair needs less; thick or curly hair can take more. Some people also apply a richer oil before washing, as a pre-shampoo step, leaving it on for around 30 minutes before shampooing as usual.
What does a bond-building hair product do?
Bond-building products, such as COSRX's Peptide 132 range, are designed for hair that has been coloured, bleached or heat-styled and feels weaker or rougher than it used to. They work within the hair fibre to help it feel stronger, smoother and more manageable over time. Use them as directed, usually before or after shampoo, and follow with conditioner. Regular use tends to matter more than quantity.
