Bowls, storage & accessories: your questions answered

Stainless steel, ceramic or plastic: which pet bowl is right?
Stainless steel bowls, such as Loving Pets' Bella bowls, are durable, easy to clean and usually dishwasher-safe. Ceramic bowls are heavy, so they're less likely to slide or tip, but check them regularly for chips. Plastic bowls are light and colourful but can scratch over time, so replace them when they wear. Whichever you choose, wash food and water bowls daily.
What is a slow feeder bowl?
Slow feeder bowls have ridges or mazes that pets work around to reach their food, turning mealtime into more of a puzzle. They're popular for dogs that eat very quickly. Outward Hound makes a well-known range in different sizes and difficulty levels. Introduce one gradually, choose a pattern that suits your pet's size and snout shape, and wash it thoroughly, as food can collect in the grooves.
How do I choose a retractable lead?
Check the lead's maximum weight rating against your dog, and choose a tape rather than a cord for larger dogs, as it's easier to see and handle. Practise using the lock and brake button before your first walk, keep a firm grip, and switch to a short, fixed lead in busy areas or near roads. Inspect the tape or cord regularly for fraying.
