A syrup built on black elderberry

The base is European black elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.), blended with vitamin C, zinc and a proprietary mix of echinacea and propolis. The label describes it as gluten free, vegetarian and gelatin free.

Sourcing and sweetening

Nature's Way says each elderberry is handpicked and frozen on the same day to preserve it, and that no artificial colours are used. The syrup is sweetened with fructose and a measuring cup is included, so the daily amount is simple to pour. It is made for adults and children aged 7 and over.

How to use

Shake well before each use. For daily use, adults take 2 teaspoons (10 ml) and children aged 7 and over take 1 teaspoon (5 ml). For more intensive use the same amount can be taken twice daily. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Before you choose

Not formulated for children under 7 and not recommended for people with autoimmune conditions. People with allergies to plants in the Asteraceae (Compositae) family, including ragweed, should use it with caution. The label says it is free of peanut, dairy and artificial colours. Do not use if the seal is broken or missing. Keep tightly closed, store at room temperature and avoid heat and direct sunlight. US-market product: packaging and label wording may differ from UK versions. Food supplement. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Not a substitute for a varied diet. Keep out of reach of children. Consult a doctor before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical supervision.
