Buttermilk flavour from a boxed mix

The dry blend already includes buttermilk powder, dried egg, sugar and raising agents, so the measuring of dry ingredients is done for you. The manufacturer describes the mix as a good source of calcium and states that it contains no preservatives.

Pancakes or waffles from one box

The same mix can be used for pancakes or waffles, so one box covers different breakfasts. At 32 oz (about 907 g), it is a practical cupboard staple for regular weekend cooking.

How to use

Whisk 1 cup of mix with 2 cups of water or milk and leave the batter to stand for 5 minutes. Heat a frying pan or griddle over a medium-high heat, pour about 1/4 cup of batter per pancake and cook until golden brown on both sides. Serve hot with your favourite topping.

Before you choose

The directions use US cup measures. The mix contains wheat, barley, soy, milk and egg, and the ingredients include partially hydrogenated soybean oil. US-market product: packaging and label wording may differ from UK versions.

bleached WHEAT flour (WHEAT flour [enriched with niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], malted BARLEY flour), sugar, SOY flour (SOY flour, SOYbean oil, SOY lecithin), BUTTERMILK powder, leavening (sodium bicarbonate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate) contains 2% or less of: dextrose, vegetable oil shortening (partially hydrogenated SOYbean oil), salt, dried whole EGGS, calcium carbonate, nonfat dry MILK, natural and artificial flavor (maltodextrin, natural and artificial flavor), mono- and diglycerides.
