Dr. Bronner's, family soapmakers since 1858, makes this toothpaste without synthetic detergent foaming agents or preservatives, so it foams less than many conventional pastes. Organic peppermint oil and organic menthol crystals give it a fresh peppermint taste, and the brand says the formula leaves the mouth, teeth, gums and tongue feeling fresh and clean.

What each ingredient does

Hydrated silica and calcium carbonate act as gentle abrasives, while organic coconut flour adds polishing. Organic glycerin gives the paste its body, and organic aloe juice is included, which the brand says helps soothe gums. Baking soda and potassium cocoate, made with fair trade organic coconut oil, are used as the cleansers.
