Crest Pro-Health Advanced is built on stannous fluoride, and the US label lists it as an anticavity, antigingivitis and antisensitivity toothpaste. The brand describes it as giving 100% whole mouth protection and 24-hour anti-bacterial protection with twice-daily brushing. It also freshens breath.

Enamel in an acidic diet

Crest notes that acids in everyday foods can soften and thin enamel, leaving teeth looking less white and feeling more sensitive, and this formula is designed with that in mind. Zinc lactate and sodium hexametaphosphate appear among the inactive ingredients.

How to use

Adults and children aged 12 and over: apply at least a 1-inch (about 2.5 cm) strip to a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush thoroughly for at least one minute twice a day, morning and evening, or as a dentist recommends. Make sure you brush all sensitive areas. Do not swallow. Children under 12 should ask a dentist.

Before you choose

This is a daily toothpaste, not a substitute for dental check-ups. Do not use it for sensitivity for longer than four weeks unless a dentist recommends it, and stop and ask a dentist if sensitivity persists or worsens, as sensitive teeth may indicate a problem needing prompt care. Keep out of reach of children; if more than the amount used for brushing is swallowed, get medical help straight away. Products containing stannous fluoride may cause surface staining of the teeth, which adequate brushing may prevent. The formula contains sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol and carrageenan. US-market product: packaging and label wording may differ from UK versions.
