Magnesium chloride, not Epsom salt

Ancient Minerals points out that these flakes are magnesium chloride rather than magnesium sulphate, the compound found in Epsom salt. The flakes dissolve in water and contain no added fragrance or fillers. The brand has been making topical magnesium products since 2007.

For baths and foot soaks

Add the flakes to a warm bath or a foot bowl and soak for at least half an hour, then rinse and moisturise. The brand describes the flakes as suitable for adults and children of all ages when used as directed.

This 16 lb pack is a bulk size, which suits regular soaking. Since a typical bath uses 1 to 3 cups, it lasts for many soaks, though it is a heavy item to store and lift.

How to use

Dissolve 1 to 3 cups in a warm bath or foot soak and relax for at least 30 minutes. For a stronger soak, the manufacturer says up to 8 lb can be added to a full tub. Afterwards, rinse off with cool water and apply a moisturiser.
