Face: your questions answered

BB cream, CC cream or cushion foundation: which should I choose?
BB creams, a Korean staple from brands like MISSHA, give sheer to light coverage with a skincare-like feel. CC creams focus on evening out the look of skin tone, often with a colour-correcting tint. Cushion foundations, such as TIRTIR's Mask Fit range, hold liquid foundation in a sponge compact, giving buildable coverage with a tap of the puff. All three are designed for a natural, fresh finish.
Do I need a face primer?
A primer isn't essential, but it can help makeup go on more smoothly and stay put for longer. Smoothing primers blur the look of pores, hydrating primers suit dry skin, and mattifying ones help on shinier areas. Apply a thin layer after moisturiser and sunscreen, wait a minute, then apply foundation. Many people only prime certain areas, such as the T-zone.
How do I use setting powder?
Use a light hand. Press loose or pressed powder onto areas that tend to get shiny, usually the forehead, nose and chin, using a fluffy brush or a puff. Pressing rather than sweeping keeps the base underneath in place. For a softer finish, dust off the excess with a clean brush. Laura Geller's baked powders are a popular US alternative that double as a light foundation.
