Ecosentials Smart FlossDr. Tung's Ecosentials Smart Floss, Natural Cardamom, 27 m (30 yd)

A floss that expands when damp

Smart Floss is designed to expand into the spaces between teeth once it becomes damp, which the brand says makes it gentler on the gums and softer on the fingers. It is described as comfortable for braces and wider spaces.

Coating, packaging and materials

The strand has a natural plant and beeswax coating, so it is not vegan, and is free of PTFE and PFAS. The brand now supplies it in paperboard packaging rather than plastic. It is listed as gluten-free and non-GMO, with no animal testing, and each pack holds 27 m (30 yd) of cardamom-flavoured floss.

How to use

Wrap 18 inches (45 cm) of floss around your fingers and draw it tight, as it expands when damp. Slide the floss between your teeth, curve it around each tooth and clean between tooth and gum with a gentle up-and-down motion. Use a clean section for each tooth.

Before you choose

The coating contains beeswax, so this floss is not suitable if you avoid animal-derived products. Floss gently and stop if you feel discomfort. US-market product: packaging and label wording may differ from UK versions.
