PanOxyl 4% vs 10%: Which Strength Should You Choose?

1 min read

PanOxyl acne washes are available in two common strengths: 4% and 10% benzoyl peroxide. Both can help reduce acne-causing bacteria, but the best choice is usually the lowest strength your skin can use consistently.

PanOxyl 4%: a gentler starting point

The 4% creamy wash is generally the better starting option for the face, dry skin or sensitive skin. Use it once daily or every other day at first, rinse thoroughly and follow with a non-comedogenic moisturiser.

PanOxyl 10%: maximum-strength cleansing

The 10% foaming wash may suit oilier, more resilient skin and body areas such as the back or chest. It is more likely to cause dryness or irritation, so introduce it gradually rather than assuming stronger is always better.

How to choose

  • Choose 4% if you are new to benzoyl peroxide or prone to dryness.
  • Consider 10% for persistent body acne or very oily skin that already tolerates benzoyl peroxide.
  • Reduce frequency if skin becomes tight, red or flaky.
  • Use sunscreen and remember benzoyl peroxide can bleach towels and clothing.
