Dr Bailey’s Calming Zinc bar offers a lathering alternative to bottled cleansers. Its soap base includes olive oil, shea butter and oatmeal, giving it a different feel from a clear gel wash. It can be used for facial cleansing or on areas such as the chest, back and neck.

How to use

Wet the skin with lukewarm water. Work up a lather between your palms, apply gently while keeping it away from the eyes, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry. The manufacturer recommends starting once daily, alternating with a gentle cleanser, and increasing to twice daily only as tolerated.

Looking after the bar

Keep it on a draining soap dish between uses rather than leaving it standing in water. Avoid scrubbing the bar directly against irritated skin.

Before you choose

Oatmeal remains visible as the soap wears down. The manufacturer advises replacing the bar when mostly oats remain. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
